Many people would think that building their lists would take hard work and a lot of time to build and collect names and addresses. This is not so, it takes a bit of patience and some strategies but in doing this list, you open your site and your business to a whole new world of target market. Take the effort to take your business to a new level, if traffic increase and good profits are what you want, an opt-in list will do wonders for your business venture.

There are many sources and articles in the internet available for everyone to read and follow in building a list. Sometimes they may be confusing because there are so many and there different ways. Different groups of people would have different approaches in building an opt-in list, but no matter how diverse many methods are, there are always some crucial things to do to build your list. Here are four of them.

1) Put up a good web form in your site that immediately follows the end of your content. While some may say this is too soon to subscribe for a website visitors application, try to remember that your homepage should provide a quick good impression. If somehow a website visitor finds something that he or she doesn’t like and turns them off, they may just forget about signing up.

A good web form for subscribing to an opt-in list is not hard to do. Just write a simple short statement about how they would like to see more and get updated about the site. Then there should be an area where they could put in their names and e-mail address. This web form will automatically save and send you the data’s inputted. As more people sign in, your list will be growing.

2) As mentioned in the first tip, make your homepage very, very impressive. You need to have well written articles and descriptions of your site. Depending on what your site is all about, you need to capture your website visitor’s fancy. Make your site useful and very easy to use. Do not expect everyone to be tech savvy. Invest in having good programming in your site, make your graphics beautiful but don’t over do it.

Don’t waste your time making the homepage too overly large megabyte wise. Not all people have dedicated T1 connections, the faster your site gets loaded, the better. Go for a look that borders between simplicity and sophisticated knowledge.

3) Provide good service and products. A return customer is more likely to bring in more business. Even then and now, a satisfied customer will recommend a business always. Word of mouth and recommendations alone can rake in more business than an expensive ad. As your clientele roster grows so shall your list. With more members on the list, the more people will get to know about what you have new to offer.

4) Keep a clean and private list. Never lose the trust your customers have entrusted you. If you provide e-mails to others and they get spammed, many will probably unsubscribe to you. Remember, a good reputation will drive in more traffic and subscribers as well as strengthen the loyalty of your customers.

Yesterday, we discussed ways of promoting that could actually hurt your business in the long term.
I just got off the phone with one of my clients who uses my ad writing skills for content and he uses my exstensive traffic network. When marketing online, I use what I call rules of engagement or for a better term ruls of conduct. One such marketer that comes to mind is Willie Crawford. He has been in internet marketing for the past twelve years and as far as I know have always kept his integrity intact.

Willie understands a basic principle. Honesty in all our affairs. His honesty is how he got to be successful in internet marketing. I have purchased products from Willie in the past and most have lived up to my expectations, meaning I turned a profit. :) Once, I made a purchased a product that did not live up to my expectations and sent him an email expressing my concerns.

He sent me a reply that shocked me. In essence, he asked if I wanted a refund and he was geniunely concerned. I declined the refund because I had made enough money off of him and thought I would re-package it and resell it in the future. I too strive for honesty in all my affairs without the hype. When you hype your products or services you help create a false illussion which will come back and bite somewhere down the road.

I have two clients to use as an example and get many calls throughout the week from people who have questions about my services. The first thing I tell them is I can create good content which will send visitors to their through my traffic network which consist of traffic exchanges, guaranteed traffic,search engine submissions, forums, groups and safelists including several list that I own.

Now out of the two clients, the first on completely understood when I said I can increase your traffic but I can not make them buy. Obviously, the subject line and ad has peaked their interest to the point that they will visit the site. After that, my job is done. It is up to the website owner to compel his visitors into action by providing good sales copy.

My first client was and is happy with his results which in the third week has produced 7 sales and a lot of inquires about his product. My second client, although he says he hears me, has called me a hero one day and a bum the next day. I never promised him or any other client a rose garden.

By being honest in all my affairs, I can look right in the eye of my clients and tell them exactly what I can do for their business but I also tell them what I can not do. Building content that attracts visitors is an art and I`m afraid to say, that is the only talent that I have. But more importantly, I have my honesty which allows me to sleep very good at night.

I could make a list the the proper way to do business online but I chose to sum it up in six little words.’To Thine Own Self Be True’.

What defines the rules of engagement when marketing online? I`m starting to see more and more, shall we say less than honorable sales tactics being used over the internet for short term gain. One that comes to mind is the tactic of the ninety nine cent offer. The marketer offers you a good set of marketing tools for just ninety nine cents. Then when you click on the buy now button, you are taken to an agreement page which states that the first month is ninety nine cents and ninety seven dollars a month thereafter.

Slick huh. Well it may be slick but it is downright dishonest and many a newbies are caught by this trick and when they try to cancel it sometimes takes months to cancel. Meaning they could be out of several hundred dollars before they straighten the matter out. One of my clients was taken by this scam and yes, I classify this as a scam. He was so happy to cancel his subscription, he never bothered to go after the three hundred dollars he was charged prior to his cancellation.

Although I will admit that it is up to the buyer to read the fine print and most do not. That is why I am writing this post for the new members of the internet who is looking for real ways to make money online. Just because a marketer is well known does not mean that he will send you some bad information. Remember, he or she is online to make money, so do your home work.

I got an e-mail from a marketer who I have watched a video that had some powerful information. Then I got an e-mail from him about two guys with some good marketing tools. The guys were pretty hyped up because they had about 5,000 people on the call and another 15,000 opted in. I`m thinking that is great. Then they offered everyone a set of DVD`s free! You only had to pay shipping an handling of $7.95, plus they threw in a free list building course (Value $2,100.00) as an added bonus.

I Thought, that`s a great deal. I`m in. So I click on yes, send me my free DVD`s and was taken to another page that stated that yes, the DVD`s would be shipped to me for $7.95 and my credit card would be charged $97 a month thereafter. I thought whoa! Whatever happened to free? Then I got to thinking, they just lied! My next thought was what else did they lie about? So did they really have 5,000 people on the call or 15,000 optins? I don`t think so or why would they lie.

Some else happened too. The well known marketer who alerted me to the call, just lost my respect and he either did not look at the call or if he did, he is about as low as you can get for promoting junk like that. Why do people even tolerate junk like that? Greed! They feed off of people who are greedy to make money online. Below are some ways you can keep yourself safe from these tricky methods.

1. Do your homework, look up the website on whois.
2. See if they have reliable contact information and use it.
3. After making contact, if they do not reply, don`t buy.
4. Make sure all of your questions are answered, do not be afraid to ask.
5. Find out what there refund policy is.
6. See if you can find any reviews of the products or services being offered.
7. Read the disclaimer. You`ll notice that most will say that ‘You May Not Make Any Money!’
8. Read the terms and service agreement( Most are betting you won`t)

Please feel free to ad to this list. On closing, I saw a software product that I was thinking of getting and they offered a free version. I tried the free version but was not too satisfied with the results. Still, I was thinking of buying the paid version for $95. I went to the website and found the link for contact. I sent the owner an email stating that I had money in hand and was ready to buy but had a few questions.

He sent me a reply saying that it was possible to use the software in the manner I wanted to use it for. But my next question was that after using the software it would just say idle, so he asked me what operating system I was using. I replied and have not heard from him since. Needless to say he did`nt get my money and I`m still shoping.

That` it for today. Tomorrow I`ll talk about some good rules of engagement in marketing that is honest and will help you grow your business over the long term. One of my clients asked me how come customers are not beating down my door. My response was, I don`t sell them hype. I tell them the truth. :)

There are so many success stories you will hear about businesses making it good on the internet. Search engines provide information to the millions of users that they have each day. They provide links to many sites that a user may be looking for. If your sites link pop up in the high ranks of the search results page, you get a great chance that they will go to your site.
